“I have tried everything and am not seeing the results we are looking for.”
This is a statement we hear time and time again from patients—whether they are searching for answers for themselves or for their child. First, I want to assure you: You are not alone in your journey. There is a very specific reason you’ve been limited in the results you are seeking to achieve.
When you were conceived, a powerful and beautiful light was emitted at the moment the egg and sperm united. The very first thing to develop in utero is your brain and spinal cord—your nervous system. From here, all your organs and structures develop. You began to resemble a tiny and adorable human and started to move in your mother's body.
So let's expand upon this for a second and get a little nerdy. The FIRST thing to develop is your brain and spinal cord. Without these structures, there would be no you: no lungs to help you breathe, no heart to pump blood, no stomach to digest your food. Your brain developed first, then forming your organs and systems and directing them to heal, repair, and grow. Are you understanding where I am getting at? Hold this idea for a second.
Our society loves to blame our health on our food, our workout routine, our mental health status, our environment, our jobs, and more. I am not saying that these things don't affect our health—they absolutely do—but they are not the root of why we remain unhealthy and stuck. The true root of your health lies within your nervous system: your brain and spinal cord. Why? If your brain isn't connecting to your digestive system well, you won't absorb the nutrients from your food. If your brain isn't connecting to your muscles well, you won't receive the full impact from your workout routine. If your brain isn't connecting to your emotional balancing functions, you will experience anxiety, depression, or anger. You see where I am going here? Your brain controls EVERYTHING. When you try all these cool diets, exercise routines, and therapy appointments and still feel stuck, it’s because YOUR NERVOUS SYSTEM IS STUCK.

For my visual friends, here is the hierarchy of development: 1. Autonomic Nervous System: This develops first, is made up of the sympathetic (fight or flight) and parasympathetic (rest and digest) branches, and controls all the automatic functions you don't have to think about. Think of this as the foundation of a house. 2. Motor Centers: These develop next, starting with nursing, then rolling, sitting, crawling, eating solids, cruising, walking, running, and so on. Motor centers heavily influence brain growth and development and are responsible for most of the brain's nutrition. Movement is life and is necessary for survival. 3. Gut and Immune Systems: These develop next. Think about when babies start to eat solids—it’s typically when they are crawling and moving around more. This is intentional in your design because movement helps with gut motility. 4. Brain-Based Functions: The last to develop are higher-level functions like socialization, cognitive thinking, speech, decision-making, behavior, and emotional regulation.
In typical society, we want to work from the top down, addressing therapies such as functional medicine, speech, occupational therapy (OT), physical therapy (PT), and mental health counseling first. The problem is that we are limited because we are working with a nervous system that is stuck and unable to adapt. Now, let's flip the script. When we start with a Bottom-Up Approach—addressing the autonomic nervous system first—we repair the basic functions in the body. THEN, when we add in other therapies, those providers will see results SO much farther and faster because the root of the dysfunction is balanced. Does that make sense?
We see miracles every day in our office by getting to the root and balancing the nervous system. The natural next question is: Why does chiropractic help the nervous system on a deeper level? This is simple. Other therapies are external in their approach, whereas chiropractic is an internal-out approach. When we provide a specific adjustment to the nervous system, we restore the vital nerve communication from the brain to the body, which leads to healing, growth, and repair. Make sense? A massage therapist works with the muscles, but what controls the muscles? The nerves. And what are the nerves connected to? The brain. And what does the brain do? EVERYTHING.
SO, when we focus on adjusting the brain, we adjust the body and we change a life. We say to expect miracles because we truly do see them happen every single day: Fertility struggles resolved to a successful pregnancy. Daily seizures reduced to zero. Overstimulation transformed to calm. Constipation and Miralax replaced by daily, natural bowel movements. * A baby refusing to latch transitioning to a beautiful breastfeeding journey. When we remove the interference on the nervous system, we heal. When we heal, we can grow. And when we grow, we can repair. This is what life should be.
Now, for the people thinking, "I have tried chiropractic care before and it didn't work." I have a few vital questions for you: How many times did you go? Did you see a nervous system-focused chiropractor? * Why did you stop? Chiropractic care is like working out: you have to be consistent to see changes and you must continue to go for optimal function. Don't panic—you won't come as often once your nervous system is regulated, but you do still have to come. Why? Because you have one brain, and you will always need it to function at its best. Simple as that.
Ready to live your life free of interference? Reach out to our office today. We will show you exactly where your nervous system is not adapting and how we can optimize your function so you can do the things you love with the people you love.
In health,
Dr. Haley
